Albion boss Micky Adams has killed speculation linking him with his old club Southampton by declaring: "I've got a job to do here."

Adams had been mentioned as a possible candidate for the post at the Dell following Glenn Hoddle's switch to Spurs.

But he said today: "I've had no contact with anybody and I am not expecting any. I think they have possibly got someone lined up.

"It's flattering to hear your named mentioned alongside Keegan and Vialli. That sounds great, but I have got a job to do here."

Kevin Keegan, who took over from Adams in controversial circumstances at Fulham, remains the red-hot favourite for the Saints job.

Bookmakers William Hill are so convinced that they are refusing to take bets.

Spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "There seems little point us making a book as we are led to believe that Kevin Keegan has already been approached for the job."

Hoddle is expected to be unveiled as Tottenham manager tomorrow as talks over compensation with Southampton continue.

The north London club announced there would be no press conference today as the Saints still hold Hoddle's registration.

Former England coach Hoddle, who quit as Southampton boss on Tuesday night, is expected to sign a five-year contract once a compensation figure has been agreed.

Tottenham players have already been told that their new boss will be in charge from Monday, which means Hoddle's first game will be the FA Cup semi-final against great rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford, a week on Sunday.

Former England manager Graham Taylor is to retire from club management at the end of the season. The Watford boss, 56, has decided to bring down the curtain on a 28-year career which began with Lincoln in 1972.
