Every car accident causes shock and misery. But those involving uninsured cars produce more than most.
Innocent people can end up losing their livelihoods and even their homes because they are unable to claim compensation for injuries they have received.
Now Sussex Police are cracking down on the five per cent of drivers who are uninsured through roadside checks. Officers will be able to tell instantly from computers whether drivers should be on the road.
Some may see it as an invasion of privacy. But these drivers are a potential menace.
They should be forced to get insured or be run off the road.
