Kirsten Read has sealed a title double.

The 13-year-old claimed the national under-13s doubles crown with partner Hannah Littlecott (Hampshire) after helping Heathfield Community College secure the National Schools under-15s crown.

She said: "It feels good. It's been my best week in badminton and I things might get even better because I'm playing for Sussex at under-13s and under-15s in national finals this weekend."

Her doubles triumph at Kettering had coach Bruce Peabell predicting she could following the path of Olympic medallist Jo Goode (Bognor).

Kirsten gained a bronze in the singles after losing to her doubles partner in the semi-finals after being seeded No.2 and Peabell said: "I'm delighted for her with her doubles success. She's always been a good doubles player.

"I think she could become a doubles specialist like Jo and she's done pretty well. It is like tennis. In singles you have to deal with the big serves, there's less time to react. In doubles it's more about using your brain. Kirsten has played doubles from a very early age and perhaps she is more suited to that.

"I think her serve let her down in the singles. She had an easier path than Hannah who had some very tough matches. She should have just worn her down, but tried to rush it."

Kirsten's Waldron Junior clubmate and Sussex teammate Heather Olver recently lifted a national under-15s doubles crown.

She also linked up with Heather for the Schools' success at Luton with Kirsty Greig, Joanne Millward, David Askey, Matt Askey, Tim Gover and Joe Richardson.

Kirsten returns to the Bedfordshire town on Saturday to take part in the Inter-County Under-13s Challenge. Sussex, who qualified as regional runners-up, meet Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Essex, Gloucestershire and Durham.

Twenty four hours later Kirsten is included in the under-15s event in Luton against Notts, Essex, Durham, Devon and Manchester.
