A Sussex film company has been on location across the county shooting scenes for a new road movie.

Filming of Redemption Road has now moved to Eastbourne after wrapping up scenes in Brighton, Crawley and the South Downs.

The feature film, which is jointly produced by Peacehaven-based company Spice Factory, follows the fortunes of three people as they drive to the Sussex coast after being forced to leave London.

The plot unfurls as the characters find themselves thrown together at a road junction, stuck in the middle of a traffic jam.

Described as a low-budget black comedy, it features stars such as Pauline Quirke from BBC's Birds of a Feather and Ken Sharrock, who played Sinbad in the soap Brookside.

It also stars Stephen Marcus, who shot to fame as Nick the Greek in the British blockbuster Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Producer Mark Andrews said: "I would describe this as a pretty dark comedy. Through a strange twist of events these characters are all having some sort of mid-life crisis and end up going on this road to Brighton and back again.

"Everything has been going pretty well. With filming we always have problems with weather or something goes wrong. Although the weather has been bad it has been good for continuity because the ground has been wet in every scene.

"There has been a lot of interest in the film and I think it will be well received but we will have to wait for the reaction of the audience."

Redemption Road is the debut feature film for director Lloyd Stanton, whose previous credits include episodes of the Comic Strip television series.

Extras with cars are now being sought to take part in traffic jam scenes being filmed on the disused stretch of the A22 near Langney, Eastbourne, tomorrow, Friday and Saturday.

Jon Howe, from Spice Factory, said: "We need anyone who can help us create a traffic jam.

"The budget is too tight to offer any money but it could lead to more work as an extra on films in the future."

Volunteers should call Jon on 0961 108844.

Filming is due to be completed by the end of June and Redemption Road is expected to be in cinemas in the autumn.
