More than 400 people attended a thanksgiving service for the life of former Tory councillor Steve Langston.
Mr Langston died earlier this month at his home in Avondale Road from a pulmonary embolism after a short illness.
Coun Langston, 52, was the husband of Hove Parliamentary Tory hopeful Jenny Langston.
He was her consort when she was Mayor of Brighton and Hove last year.
Among the mourners were current Mayor Andy Durr, chief executive Glynn Jones, council leader Lynette Gwyn-Jones and Opposition Tory group leader Geoffrey Theobald.
The service was held at the Church of Christ the King, in New England Street, Brighton, where he was a regular worshipper. Guests were each given a colourful printed tribute to him.
His widow said he had enriched many people's lives and had always gone the extra mile for them.
She said: "My Steve was an extraordinary man. He was not just a good man, he was a godly man."
Pastor Peter Brooks, who conducted the service, said "There's great sadness and incredible shock at the death of Steve."
