Mrs June Sutton states that a council flat in Benson Court, Ingram Crescent, Brighton, has been left unoccupied since January 29 (Opinion, March 14).

This property was allocated to another tenant within a couple of days and the new tenancy began on February 26 - a period of just four weeks.

During this time, Brighton and Hove City Council will have carried out repairs, checked the electricity and gas supplies and prepared the property for the new tenant.

However, once a property has been let, tenants sometimes choose not to move in straight away, preferring to wait until they have decorated their new home or made any other necessary changes.

Mrs Sutton wrote in response to an article about the difficulty the council faced in finding a suitable property for Peter Bennett, who needs a wheelchair-accessible home.

I'm sure readers will be pleased to hear the council has now found a two-bedroom flat for him.

It has been specially adapted so Mr Bennett can live there with his sister, Veronica, and their dog, Bonny.
