The fiasco of the new stadium for Brighton and Hove Albion continues (Argus, March 9).

Since the demise of the Goldstone, it has been one broken promise after another from Labour.

First we had the highly secretive consultants' research commissioned by the then Hove Council Leader, Ivor Caplin, the results of which were never properly published.

Then we had the infamous referendum - "Falmer or nothing" - with no proper consideration of any possible alternative allowed by Brighton and Hove City Council.

Since then, complete paralysis and secrecy. The Falmer plan is clearly going nowhere and discussion about other possible sites is actively discouraged by the council and Labour politicians.

It is clear that the Albion are in no position to raise the necessary capital for their stadium plan.

What we need is a publicly-funded sports stadium under the democratic control of the community, preceded by genuine and meaningful consultation with all the information about all possible sites published, rather than the highly-secretive processes we have had so far.
