England international Paul Stevens (Worthing) kept a firm grip on his rod during the five hours of the Bognor Regis Amateur Angling Society's Beach Open.

In the event at Pagham he landed 16 rockling and top the field of 47 with 3lb 4oz. He picked up £70.

Twenty-six of the field weighed in 41lb 14,oz with Tony Crockford (East Preston Royal British Legion) second with a flounder and 13 rockling for 3lb. He won £50.

Barry Steel (Bognor Surfcasters) picked up £25 for catching 11 rockling going 2lb 13 1/2oz.

Steve Appleton picked up £44 for winning the round-fish pool with an eel of 1lb 2 1/2oz. The flat-fish pool was shared with Peter Inkersole and Ray Pullinger, each having flounders of 1lb 2oz. The junior winner was Steve Pullen of the promoting club with five rockling for 1lb 1oz. He got £10.

Over three hours in midweek, Bognor held a pier match which Steve Middleton won with six rockling for 1lb 1oz and Steve Pullen and Jumbo Sandell each had four of the same specie to tie on 13oz. The best fish was a rockling of 6oz by Steve Doncaster.

Billinghurst wound up their season with the third and final round of the Victory Bowl at Malthouse lakes where top of the 21 was Roy Gillett with 11lb 2oz of carp and tench.

A good mixture came up during the match. Bert Perry kept active with rudd and had 10lb 14oz, Derek White had 8lb 8oz of bream and Reg Beagley 8lb 1oz of tench and perch.

Bert Perry wins the trophy overall ahead of Los Gillett. The match also included the final of the pairs cup and Barry Gillett (Barry and Roy are the sons of Los) and Mike Ridley who had 4lb 15oz which easily eclipsed the 13 1/2oz of Frank Chalcraft and Rob Wilkinson.
