Crowborough will clinch the Sussex Open League title if they beat Southwick this weekend.

A 2-0 win over Sussex University last Saturday left Crowborough two points clear of rivals South Saxons, who only have one match to play.

Paul Credland opened the scoring against the rock bottom university side and Brightmore added the second.

South Saxons beat their own second team 5-0 with Jeremy Bunday scoring a hat-trick. Danny Burnett and Nick Phillips were also on target.

Andrew Skinner scored twice as Southwick beat Brighton IV 2-1.

Lewes IV edged out Littlehampton 3-2 with the winning goal being a disputed issue with both Charlie Wycherley and Tony Pedley claiming it.

Skipper Chris Kettley and Simon Baillie-Hamilton also netted, while replies came from Kevin Staight and John Williams.

Middleton and Bognor II enjoyed a 7-4 victory over Horsham IV thanks to goals from Alex Hilditch (three), Chris Pacey, Richard Bond, Gary Crossan and Damian Oakley. Replies came from Ian Brown (two), Hamish White and Kris Dance.

Dave McDonnell converted a penalty stroke for Worthing III as they drew 1-1 away to Chichester 3A.

In Division One, Hailsham claimed a surprise 2-0 win over second placed South Saxons III with Sam Rham capping an excellent display by scoring both goals.

That victory confirms the championship for Sussex Police, who ran out 2-0 winners over St Francis. The scorers were Mark Cranley and Paul Sellings.

Penguins II continued their strong finish to the season with a 4-1 win away to Worthing IV thanks to goals from Steve Ward, Rob Howland, Andy Saunders and John Rogers. The consolation came from Dave Green.

Despite being 2-0 up, Penguins III had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Lewes V. Richard Stranwick and Jason Stroud netted for Penguins, while brothers Scott and Mark Sallis scored for Lewes.

Southwick II triumphed 2-1 away to Brighton V thanks to goals from David Elms and Dave Tingley.

In Division Two, Crowborough II maintained top spot thanks to a 2-0 win over Lewes 5A. Goals came from Howard and Sykes.

The match between Billypickles and Eastbourne IV was postponed.

Pete Cross (two) and Jim Blanch were the scorers for Littlehampton II in a 3-3 draw with Chi Chipmunks.

Southwick III crushed Newhaven II 6-1 with Paul Selley (two), Peter Skinner, Spencer Taylor, Alex Mellor and Trevor Tweed on target.

In a friendly, Dave Parsons scored for Penguins V as they lost 3-1 to Mid Sussex Martlets.

Southwick V drew 2-2 with East Grinstead Ferrets with Alex Mills grabbing a brace.

l HOLDERS East Grinstead moved into the semi finals of the HA Veterans Cup after a 4-1 win over last year's beaten finalists, Khalsa.

Richard Organ scored twice for Grinstead with Martin Cremin and Paul Lloyd also on target. Grinstead now meet Canterbury in the semi final on April 8.

Rob Heinzl scored twice in the second half as Lewes Priors beat Eastbourne 3-1 to clinch a place in the final of the Sussex Veterans Cup against East Grinstead at Hastings.

l Middleton and Bognor enjoyed a 3-1 win away to Lewes II in the Premier Division of the Sussex Ladies League.

Goals came from Mhairi Maclean (two) and Kate Trenam, with Maclean's second following an excellent run from captain Rachel Maccartain. Harriet Cunning-ham scored for Lewes.

Lewes fought hard to get back towards the end but Sharon Rich and Joe Davison prevailed in defence.

Sue Thomas scored a hat-trick as Lewes firsts remained on course for the title with a 7-0 win over Chichester.

Southwick shared a 3-3 draw with Penguins after goals from Jean Hewitt, Amanda Stevenson and Donna Morgan.

Julia Cunningham and Becky Wycherley helped stemmed the tide of experience from Mid Sussex but they could not stop Lewes IV from losing 5-0.
