Simon Funnell was discussing his future with Worthing boss Sammy Donnelly today amid concerns over his health.

Funnell collapsed and was taken to hospital after Worthing's 3-0 home defeat by Aylesbury last Saturday.

The former Albion striker suffers from Crohns Disease, a complex medical condition in which the wall of the small intestine becomes inflamed.

He underwent tests on Monday and is considering taking a break from football.

Funnell, 26, said: "I had an operation three-and-a-half years ago but this is the worst I have felt since then.

"I have a bad spell this year and I have tried to play through it, but I have not done myself any favours either in terms of my health or my football.

"Supporters might think I have had a bad game but they don't know the half it.

"Worthing have been very understanding and my employer has told me to take all the time I need.

"But I have been playing football since I was nine and maybe it is time to take a year out."

Paul Kennett returns at Leatherhead tomorrow but Ben Carrington and Damian Webber are banned and Geoff Ward has flu.

Boss Jack Pearce is backing skipper Michael Birmingham to keep Bognor motoring to a top half finish.

Birmingham was perpetual motion as Rocks beat Horsham YMCA in the Senior Cup on Wednesday. Pearce said: "It really gives me pleasure when I see people who look after their bodies shine when everyone else is struggling in the mud."

Rocks select from an unchanged squad at Walton & Hersham. Mark Tryon has joined Newport IoW.
