As the recent appearance of Tony Blair in Hove was attended by Labour party supporters and members only - that is, by invitation - many non-political people were denied the chance to put questions of national importance to him.

I particularly wanted to ask Mr Blair why the appeal against a conviction for murder by the elderly and frail Norfolk farmer Tony Martin has still not been heard - and this at a time when passports for foreign multi-millionaires can be issued in a few months.

Tony Martin shot and killed a burglar who invaded his home in pitch darkness, a burglar with many convictions for crimes of violence and who was a member of a gang of professional criminals who had caused havoc in his home area.

There is an overwhelming public perception that British law is biased in favour of the criminal and not the victim. This is an outrage that will cost politicians of any party dear if not addressed.

I speak as one who has suffered the attentions of teenage burglars on more than one occasion. How about bringing the Martin case to the Lord Chancellor's attention, Mr Blair, or perhaps Prince Charles could spare the time to take an interest in the same way he has recently consoled the parents of poor Damilola Taylor?
