How sad that in the Budget the Chancellor couldn't find the will or means to improve the lot of war widows who, in the main, are over 70.
Their lives are drawing to a close, their numbers decrease annually.
Surely it is not asking too much to give them an all-expenses-paid trip to say a last farewell at their husbands' graves, wherever that may be.
Investing in the future is all very well. Let's not forget those ladies' husbands, who made that future a possibility all those years ago on the beaches of Normandy, in the desert and in other theatres of war.
I appeal to you all to ask canvassers at the forthcoming election where their party stands on this issue.
