Albion are "dead on schedule" for automatic promotion, according to captain Paul Rogers.

The Seagulls battered beleaguered Barnet 4-1 at Withdean last night to move back above Cardiff into second place.

Boss Micky Adams' target is two points per game and his team now have 70 points from 35 matches after another comfortable home win. Rogers, who slotted his fifth of the season, declared: "We are dead on schedule.

"It was a good performance, a professional job. We were in control throughout the game and carried on where we left off against Hull last Saturday."

Albion's 13th home League win out of 16 was never in doubt once Andy Crosby headed them in front after 35 minutes.

Rogers' strike separated two more goals for Bobby Zamora, which raises the young marksman's tally to 23.

Barnet's only consolation from a tenth away defeat on the trot was a late John Doolan penalty, given away by substitute Phil Stant, and they are now in relegation trouble.

Adams' assistant Bob Booker said: "We were simmering until we got a goal and then we got up to boiling point.

"Once we were ahead we relaxed and the lads were a credit to themselves."

Albion are now ten points behind leaders Chesterfield with two games in hand.

More importantly they are ten points clear of fourth-placed Hartlepool, who they visit on Saturday, with a match in hand.

Booker said: "We've hit the magical 70 points and now the next target is 80. "The games are getting bigger and fewer and we keep picking up points.

"The fourth spot is the one we have been looking to pick off and that is what faces us on Saturday."
