Worthing was gridlocked during the rush hour today - due to roadworks four miles away.
Traffic stretched from the A27 Adur flyover, through Lancing, along the coast road and into the town centre.
The mammoth tailback was caused by the closure of an eastbound lane of the A27 while workmen repair expansion joints on the Adur bridge.
The coast road into Shoreham was also jammed solid, with journey times into Brighton and Hove trebling.
The bridge-work is expected to last until the end of next week.
