Two Sussex academics have published a collection of papers by leading scholars on the role of scientific and technological innovation in modern industry.
Ben R Martin and Paul Nightingale, of the Science Policy Research Unit at Sussex University, have produced The Political Economy of Science, Technology and Innovation, covering topics such as the function of science in economic growth and the history of the subject.
The hardback work is available from the university bookshop and costs £165.
Calling all blood donors The National Blood Service (NBS) has been taking advantage of Sussex students' love of mobile phones to boost its blood banks.
Text messages have been sent to student donors giving the next date and venue of an NBS collection in a bid to increase numbers attending donation sessions.
The scheme was tested at five universities, including Brighton University, and results showed an increase in donor levels of 32 per cent. It has now been expanded to other universities in the South.

Visitors to Search Appliance can browse a database of more than 4,000 products, with links to local suppliers.
The site provides 19 different search criteria from colour or cost to fuel type or capacity.
Managing director Edward Williams said: "All the High Street brands are there. But, for those who like to be ahead of the game, we also have some amazing alternatives which are only available through specialist retailers."
