Owner Romek Kriwald is Brighton Bears' latest injury casualty.

The BBL club's supremo tore ankle ligaments playing football at the weekend.

He will spend this week hobbling around on crutches as he plans for another bumper crowd at the Brighton Centre to see Bears clash with Newcastle on Saturday.

Kriwald collided with his own goalkeeper while playing for Lavant against Cocking in the West Sussex League.

It is the latest in a series of freak injuries for Bears, who have already had to do without co-skippers Mike Brown and Danny Hildreth, Kevin Wallace and even some of the cheerleaders at various times this season.

Kriwald was forced to miss Sunday's 100-80 defeat at Chester Jets.

It always looked a daunting task for Bears to come down from Saturday night's high against Sheffield, get on the bus at 10am next morning and topple high-flying Jets.

Chester were superbly served by former Bear James Hamilton who poured in 39 points.

Hamilton hit 19 of his points in the second quarter when Jets outscored Bears 35-22 after being held 18-18 after the first period.

Chester started the second quarter with a 10-0 burst and never looked back after finishing it with a 11-2 tear.

Jets had the game in the bag at 78-60 going into the final ten minutes and opened up a 26 point lead at 92-66 in the final period.

Brighton had begun encouragingly and held the lead until the last shot of the first quarter.

Bears (topscorers): Reese 16, Brown 15, Johnson 15.

Jets (topscorers): Hamilton 39, Meyer 20, Daughrity 12.
