A 13-year-old boy died from strangulation, an inquest has been told.
The hearing at Worthing Coroner's Court was adjourned pending the outcome of criminal proceedings against the boy's mother, who was charged with murder in September last year.
Alex Wessell, who attended St Andrew's CE High School in Broadwater, Worthing, died on September 21.
West Sussex coroner Roger Stone heard that police attended the home in Mayfield Close, Findon Valley, and discovered Mrs Wessell, 42, in a double bed in the upstairs bedroom with her son, who was dead.
Mrs Wessell has been committed for trial at Lewes Crown Court, to start on June 11.
