All the hotels in Charlotte Street heartily endorse Mark Williams (Opinion, February 2) placing the blame for street mess on those who make it.

Ours is a tranquil road lined with fine four-storey buildings from about 1810, with intricate cast-iron balconies and gracious bow fronts - one of the gems of Brighton.

It is being contaminated by that careless team: Irresponsible flat dwellers, negligent landlords and seagulls.

Every day we suffer from other peoples' yesterday's dinners being spread across our streets from the rubbish bags of our trio. We have formed an alliance with Brighton and Hove Council and hope this pilot scheme is going to solve the problem.

The hotels are going to wash and sweep their pavements every day.

All will display their current waste disposal licence and ensure their waste is dealt with precisely according to the agreed rules.

The council is then going to rigorously enforce the law on waste disposal, including prosecution of all those guilty parties.

A disappointment for the seagulls but together we hope the road will have a gloss that all Brighton will be proud of.
