A man appeared in court today charged with the attempted murder of a 17-year-old girl.
Unemployed Ian Haywood, 36, of Willow Way, Hurstpierpoint, is accused of stabbing Karly Sobkawiak at Ditchling Common, near Burgess Hill, on Thursday.
Haywood, who is also charged with attempting to rob the teenager, was committed to Lewes Crown Court by Crawley magistrates for a preliminary hearing on February 1.
He also faces two charges of falsely imprisoning Mark Thomas, 19, and attempting to rob him at Ditchling Common Country Park.
Deputy District Judge Catherine Marshall remanded Haywood in custody.
Haywood's solicitor, Steven Harris, made no application for bail.
