Hove's Helen Armour helped the Logica Yacht to finish the second longest leg in the BT Global Challenge in eighth place.

Leg three of this race around the world the wrong way was destined to finish on January 10 but violent southern ocean storms and diversions for icebergs caused all of the 12-strong fleet to cover many more miles than planned.

Helen and Logica were a little disappointed with eighth place when they finally reached Wellington, New Zealand, but there was still a large welcoming crowd on the quayside.

They had consistently covered more miles per day than any other yacht in the last couple of weeks but in looking for the right winds they had one bad day, getting themselves behind and having too much to do to catch the leading six.

The next leg, a week of sailing to Sydney starts on February 18.
