I have waited patiently for someone to write agreeing with Mr Sutton's letter (Opinion, October 4) about the complete lack of garden birds.

Our garden used to be overwhelmed with birds - we counted more than 23 species.

Now, even the seagulls and pigeons have disappeared. Why? Have they succumbed to the evils of the GM food chain? Have they been put into pies while migrating over France? Are they all gathered in someone else's garden where the facilities offered are better than ours?
