Changes being introduced under the new Local Government Act are intended to end the era of the faceless bureaucrat, not prolong it! (December 4),

Mr Young, and all other Brighton and Hove residents, is invited to have a say in who runs tomorrow's council.

Far from restricting this debate to readers of Brighton and Hove News, we have invited views from residents via the Argus as well as canvassing the views of the 1000-strong Citizen's Panel.

Media attention has inevitably focused on the question of whether Brighton and Hove wants to stick with its present leader and Cabinet or opt for a directly elected Mayor.

The overall emphasis of this new legislation, however, is to encourage greater community involvement in identifying what really matters in our city and affecting the decisions that are made to ensure any changes that take place really are for the good.
