Albion were back to full strength for this weekend's FA Cup second round showdown at Glanford Park.

Manager Micky Adams named the side which beat Halifax 2-1 at Withdean last Saturday.

Scunthorpe made one change to the team which suffered only its second home League defeat against Hull last Saturday. Peter Morrison came in for suspended top scorer Guy Ipoua.

Albion almost scored inside the opening minute.

A corner won by Jones was returned to Watson by Mayo. Wicks got his head to the ensuing cross and was poised to force the ball home when Stanton hacked clear. Carpenter then fired well over the bar from outside the area.

The Seagulls were stunned by a goal out of nothing for Scunthorpe in the sixth minute.

Morrison cut inside to unleash a left-foot shot from 25 yards which hit the diving Kuipers' left hand upright.

The ball rebounded for Torpey to tuck into the empty net, with Kuipers stranded out of position.

Scunthorpe threatened again with a shot from 20 yards by Spanish midfielder Calvo-Garcia, which Kuipers grabbed at the second attempt.

Zamora, whose only previous away goal came in the last round at Aldershot, should have levelled in the 13th minute.

Rogers' nod into the box put the teenage hotshot clear of a defence looking in vain for a rescuing offside flag.

Zamora didn't quite get enough elevation on his header, which allowed keeper Evans to collect as he advanced.

But Zamora made no mistake two minutes later with a close-range header from Watson's in-swinging centre. Evans got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out, giving Zamora his sixth goal in his last four appearances.

Scunthorpe defender Dawson launched a flurry of bookings when he had his name taken in the 16th minute for a foul on Hart in the centre circle.

Larusson, Scunthorpe's Icelandic midfielder, followed suit seven minutes later for protesting too vehemently to referee Jordan after Jones had been awarded a free-kick.

It was moved ten yards forward as a result to the brink of the box, but Carpenter drove straight into the defensive wall.

Watson collected the Seagulls' first caution of the contest on 25 minutes for another foul on the diminutive Hodges just inside the Scunthorpe half.

It became 2-2 in terms of bookings in the 38th minute when Carpenter clattered into Calvo-Garcia ten yards inside Scunthorpe territory.

The game became a bit untidy as half time approached, but Albion continued to do most of the pressing.

There was a worrying moment for Albion when Zamora went down after what seemed an innocuous challenge.

The youngster quickly returned to the action following treatment from physio Malcolm Stuart.

Albion went close to taking the lead in first-half stoppage time, Jones' shot from 20 yards dipping inches over the bar.

Watson had an immediate opportunity to demonstrate his set piece expertise in the second half, but his free kick from wide on the right flank was too close to Evans.

Little had been seen of danger man Hodges until he got the chance to run at Watson in the 50th minute.

The outcome was an inviting cross by the former West Ham player just beyond his team-mates.

Referee Jordan had a calming word with Jones as the infringement count climbed.

The match had attracted scouts from no fewer than 13 clubs, the majority no doubt looking at Zamora.

They included four from the Premiership - Leicester, Newcastle, Southampton and Middlesbrough - and seven more from the First Division, including Wolves.

Jones was fortunate to escape a booking for a challenge on Wilcox after losing possession inside the Scunthorpe half.

As the hour mark approached the contest had settled into something of a stalemate, with chancing few and far between.

Scunthorpe were by now enjoying more possession than in the opening 45 minutes, although they still struggled to get Hodges in the game.

Adams made a double substitution with 20 minutes left.

Neither of the wide men had been involved much, so Brooker replaced Hart on the right and Steele came on for Jones on the left.

Just as a replay looked likely, Scunthorpe regained the lead with 14 minutes remaining, Sheldon scoring with a flick header from Dawson's free-kick.

There was more bad news to come for the Seagulls. Zamora, booked in the 88th minute after tangling with Wilcox, got his marching orders for a second cautionable offence when he prevented goalkeeper Evans from taking a free kick for Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe were also reduced to ten men a minute later. Larruson collecting his second yellow card.
