Albion are pitching for a quick kill in the FA Cup at Scunthorpe tomorrow to avoid a Withdean replay.

That would be played on December 19, bringing forward the Seagulls' next fixture at their temporary home by a precious three days.

Manager Micky Adams has already expressed concern about the poor state of the Withdean pitch, so he wants his side to finish the job at Glanford Park.

"We are not going there thinking a draw would be a good result," said Adams. "It would possibly be a bad result. The pitch needs time to recover.

"The intention is to be in the hat for the third round on Sunday, hopefully without a replay."

Adams is not placing too much emphasis on the absence of Scunthorpe's suspended top scorer Guy Ipoua.

Likely stand-in Darryn Stamp, sent-off at Withdean last season during a loan spell with Halifax, scored twice against Albion for Scunthorpe the season before and bagged a hat-trick for the reserves this week.

"Once strikers get going they are difficult to contain, as we have seen with Bobby Zamora," said Adams.

"Scunthorpe have a good enough squad not to worry that Ipoua won't be playing, but obviously it is a bonus for us."

Adams is expected to revert to the side which beat Halifax 2-1 last Saturday.

He fielded a makeshift team in Tuesday's 2-0 victory against Cardiff in the LDV Vans Trophy.

It stretched Albion's remarkable run to just one defeat in 19 matches, including a 0-0 home draw with Scunthorpe in the League in October.

Cullip and Paul Brooker should both recover from slight knocks, while Lee Johnson's debut goal against Cardiff could earn him a place on the bench.

The teenage midfielder has been added to the squad with cover goalkeeper Mark Cartwright.
