Albion defender Paul Watson is prepared to put himself on the spot again.

He has pledged to continue as the Seagulls' penalty taker for Saturday's clash against fellow high-flyers Leyton Orient at Withdean.

Watson wants to keep the role, even though he is only fourth choice.

And he insists he hasn't lost his nerve after missing Albion's last spot-kick.

The Hastings-born rightback revealed: "I'll carry on taking them, I don't mind.

"I took penalties at Gillingham, but I am really fourth choice at Brighton.

"Darren Freeman and Warren Aspinall are both injured and Andy Crosby was going to take them if he had been playing."

Watson put Albion 2-0 up in the last home game against Cheltenham with a perfectly struck penalty to the left of goalkeeper Steve Book.

He chose the opposite corner when the Seagulls were awarded a second spot-kick, but Book saved it.

"I can't remember missing a penalty before," Watson said. "The first one that day had more pressure on, because we were only 1-0 up.

"That was the one I really wanted to put away, but I was very disappointed with the second one. It was a poor penalty.

"I don't know why I went the other way. I was going to put it in the same place but changed my mind at the last moment. Everybody knows that's a bad thing to do."
