Two Brighton firms are celebrating after their internet fantasy football game attracted 23,500 users in just over a month.

Interakt and Communicopia created Dreamsquad for cable television firm NTL but the firm has yet to market the website or even offer a prize for the winner.

The only links to the site on the internet are on the NTL World and Cable & Wireless websites. NTL plans to make the game available on its interactive digital television service.

Despite the lack of publicity, 39,000 teams are vying to be at the top at the end of the season.

Gamers select £100 million worth of footballers from the Premiership to make up their squad and get points when their chosen players perform well.

They can make transfers during the season, swapping out-of-form players for stars.

Statistical information from the Opta Index is sent to Interakt and the results are automatically updated.

Gary Parfoot, director of Interakt, said: "We've looked to expand the game across Europe and possibly include Champions League games."

The game was created in just five weeks and the firms' quick work meant it was ready just in time for the start of the season.
