A straw bull has been built to promote a new guarantee of quality in British farming.

The bull is the work of farm workers Paul Kench and Brian White who work at Whetton Farm at Kingston, near Worthing.

Mr White, 53, said: "We were bet a pint by the farmer's daughter, Emma Whetton, that we couldn't make a bull to promote the British Farmers Standard which guarantees standards of farm produce and animal care.

"We managed to get it done in a day using straw, chestnut stakes and chicken wire.

"It's caused a bit of a stir with people knocking on the farm door to ask what it is and traffic slowing down to have a good look."

Mr White and Mr Kench have also produced a horse out of similar materials which doubles as a clothes line.
