Albion loan duo Matthew Wicks and Mark Cartwright have strengthened their cases for permanent contracts.

Central defender Wicks and keeper Cartwright helped the Seagulls to a 2-0 win at Blackpool last night.

Goals before half time by captain Paul Rogers and Gary Hart gave Micky Adams' men their first away win of the season and their first clean sheet.

Adams was particularly pleased with the performance of Wicks, making his fourth appearance on loan from Peterborough alongside Danny Cullip.

"Since the first game, when he was very nervous, Matt has settled down alongside Danny, who is looking after him very well," said Adams.

"If Matt continues to show his form I am sure the board will dig deep into the coffers again to get him. He has come in and done a fantastic job.

"We were resolute in our defending and we had to be. We were fortunate to go in at half time two-up.

"In the second half we relied on hitting them on the break. We knew they would be fired up, but I had people laying their bodies on the line which you need to away from home."

Cartwright's month on loan from Wrexham has now expired, but Adams wants to keep him.

"It's about time I kept a clean sheet," Cartwright said. "We soaked up a lot of pressure in the second half and defended quite well as a unit.

"It has been coming over the last four or five games. We have just been playing better and better, so it was only a matter of time."

Albion, up to ninth in the table, return home to Withdean against Cheltenham on Saturday after a hat-trick of away games.

Adams added: "We have got to build on this now."
