I am amazed by the convoluted thinking of Brian Phillips (Opinion, June 27).

Without the money paid by motorists the country would grind to a halt, yet he has the audacity to call us scroungers.

We pay more for our fuel than any other country in the world. Our haulage firms are going broke because they cannot compete with continental lorries which run on cheaper fuel. The price of everything involving road transport costs us more.

Public transport is inconvenient.
