I disagree with Andy Player (Opinion, June 22) that the problem of asylum seekers can be partly blamed on capitalism and transnational companies.

Most refugees and asylum seekers are fleeing communist or former communist regimes.

That the people who recently died paid huge sums to be conveyed in discomfort across the globe to an alien culture is an indictment of the existing Chinese regime.

Most people would prefer to live in their home countries if conditions were conducive to human happiness. The problem of refugees and asylum seekers needs to be addressed at root. Transnational companies might actually have a role to play in that.
