I am keen to set the record straight regarding Sir Owen Williams and Wembley Stadium (Argus, June 22). The British Empire exhibition buildings, which include Wembley Stadium, were designed by architects Simpson and Ayrton and accredited to Maxwell Ayrton.
Our founder, Sir Evans Owen Williams, was the principal engineer but did not take an architectural role.
Our records cast doubt Sir John Simpson was involved. The stadium was built by the McAlpine brothers (we still have the original tender documentation among our drawings, photographs, paperwork and memorabilia).
The Architects' Registration Act came into existence in 1931. The work on Wembley was carried out between 1921 and 1924 and would, therefore, not have been governed by this Act.
The mystery of the towers (Argus, June 17) refers not to who designed them but to why they cannot be moved.
