A disabled pensioner has been left house-bound by vandals who have attacked his car for the third time.

Ronald Mitten, 70, has arthritis and needs his car to get out and about, so he was devastated when he woke on Saturday to find every window in the vehicle had been smashed.

He is so angry and upset he is thinking of moving away from Whitehawk Close in Whitehawk, Brighton, to escape the vandals.

He said: "This is the third time the car has been attacked since Christmas. There is no reason for it - whoever did it didn't steal anything. It is just mindless.

"Because I can't walk far, without my car I can't get out of the house. I will be stuck indoors until I can get it fixed."

Mr Mitten said he thought the attack on his car, which was parked outside his home, was particularly callous as his disabled driver sticker was clearly displayed in the window.

He said: "Every time this happens I have to pay the £50 excess for the insurance out of my pension and then my premiums will go up too. I can't go on like this. I'm thinking I will either have to give up my car or move away from Whitehawk where I have lived all my life."

Mr Mitten's daughter Joy is furious at what has been happening.

She said: "It's absolutely disgusting. This is the third time since Christmas that my father's car has been damaged, the second time in six weeks - and they haven't left a window in it.

"It's not a brand-new car and they haven't tried to steal it or anything in it, it's just vandalism."

She added that the constant fear of further attacks on his property were making Mr Mitten ill.

She said: "It's awful. The car is parked right outside his window and he is worried about what will happen if these people attack his house. My dad has had two heart attacks and this is making him ill.

"He needs the car to get to the shops and to the doctors."
