Bognor have won the race to sign the leading goalscorer in Sussex.

Striker Matt Russell has committed himself to the Rocks, despite interest from Unijet Sussex League champions Langney Sports and Worthing.

It is a return home for the former Horsham YMCA striker, who topped 50 goals last season.

Russell, 21, came through the youth team ranks at Nyewood Lane and admitted: "There was nothing to chose between Bognor and Worthing other than the fact that Bognor is my local team.

"I haven't signed for Jack yet but I've given him my word and that's enough."

Delighted Rocks boss Jack Pearce added: "It's a step up for Matt but if he scores half as many goals as last season I'll be delighted.

"If he gets as many as last season, he won't be with me this time next year."

Premiership side Charlton and Albion are also keeping tabs on Russell.
