Two Southern championships were lost to the East Anglians at Arlington.

The Stock Car Championship was no surprise. Despite a brilliant effort by Samantha Holland in the third race of the day, when she beat seven of East Anglia's finest, Nigel Walker claimed the title over three races.

World champion Steven Jackson finished in second. The Superstox might have been closer if Mark Eaton, hadn't pulled out from the third race under the impression that he was being shown a disqualification flag which was actually for another driver.

He was closing in on Shaun Brooker at the time, but with Eaton out of the equation, Brooker made the most of it to take his third win on the day. The Big Van Bangers provided non-stop action and very few finishers.

Twenty-eight of these, all locally-based, came out to play, with Dave King from Burgess Hill providing a cross between an ambulance and a minibus, while Geoff Bowen had a very large camper van. Only four made it to the finish, with Mitcham's Larry Pitt winning the Delivery Drivers Champ-ionship. In the second race, local driver Mark Welland won, and Heathfield's Gary Dyer won third.

In the Mini Stox, Sussex drivers David Polley (7th) and Mark Almeida (6th) had a good day.
