Findon have opened up a ten-point lead at the top of the Sussex Invitation League despite losing their 100 per cent record on Saturday.

Roffey's last-wicket pair defied them for three overs at Long Furlong in one of four drawn matches.

But second-placed Lindfield didn't even get onto the park after their match at Goffs Park against Crawley was cancelled. The games at Barns Green and Pagham were also rained off.

Findon made 167-9 after both sides agreed to switch the match to an artificial pitch.

Opener Graham Waller scored 58 and brother Nigel an undefeated 51 while Darren Dance bowled his medium-pacers unchanged for 23.3 overs to take 6-75.

Roffey were in control with 20 overs remaining when they needed 78 with seven wickets in hand.

But wickets fell steadily and their last-wicket pair had to survive 15 balls. Steve Mullen's leg cutters earned him figures of 4-65.

Findon captain Nigel Waller said: "Both teams were very positive. Roffey wanted to play and it was a really good game.

"They were in the driving seat with 20 overs left but Steve bowled well and we pegged them back."

The only positive result on a rain-ruined day was at Eastergate where the home side lost by five wickets to Keymer & Hassocks.

Justin Keene's 73 helped Eastergate make 142-7 from 49 overs, but John Tatford's undefeated 49 steered the visitors to their second victory and lifted them into fifth place.

The other three matches ended in low-scoring draws.

East Preston clung onto a draw at St John's Park, finishing on 123-9 in reply to Burgess Hill's 161-9.

Visitors Ifield made 133-6 from 49 overs and then had Clymping struggling on 91-7 from 42 overs when stumps were drawn.

There were two-half centuries in the match between Henfield and Petworth Park.

Martin Payne made 57 in Henfield's 149-5 and the visitors finished just short on 139-7 from 45 overs despite Richard Whitcomb's stylish 53.

Southwick have opened up an 18-point lead in Division 2 despite suffering their first defeat of the season.

Nearest rivals Ansty had to settle for eight points after their match against Storrington was washed out, but Southwick collected two more points despite losing by five wickets at home to Ardingly.

The visitors, who have moved up to third, overhauled their opponents' 182-8 in 43 overs thanks to 80 from G.Clough.

Pulborough are fourth despite sliding to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Broadwater.

Alcott (4-40) and Johnson (4-49) did the damage as the home team were bowled out for 130 despite 53 from Simmons. Russell Iago smacked four sixes in his unbeaten 80 to steer Broadwater to their second win of the season.

It was a good day for the Benhams, Andy and Dave, as Selsey won their first game in some style at St Andrews.

A half-century from D.Richardson helped them make 142 and then Andy (4-3) and Dave (3-5) skittled Saints who were bowled out for 59 in 28.5 overs.

The other match ended in a draw. A.Tyler made 87 for Rustington as they scored 170-7 at South Bersted & Bognor. The combined side finished on 132-6 in reply, surrendering their 100 per cent record in the process.

The games at Portslade, Southwater and Wisborough Green were all rained off.

Highlights in Division 1 of the second XI league included an unbroken third-wicket stand of 150 between Dave Storey (96) and John Etherington (51) as Eastergate defeated Keymer & Hassocks by eight wickets.

Goring beat Pagham and Ifield spinner Raj Cherodian took 5-37 in the five-wicket win at home to Clymping.
