East Dean recovered from a very poor start to continue their 100 per cent start to the Cuckmere Valley League season.

Denton bowler Davy Milne had the home side flapping at 14-3 but East Dean recovered to post a total of 111 all out with Nigel Butler scoring 45.

John Daubney added a valuable 17 while Milne finished with 4-10.

In reply, Denton struggled against the bowling of Russell Perkins (2-10) and Tim Woodward (2-19) and were dismissed for 84, which handed East Dean a fifth win from five games.

An exciting game at Firle saw visitors Nutley bowled out for 119 with only John Deverill (37) and Shaun Fuller (22) displaying any fluency with the bat.

Richard Gravett hit 39 in reply and Alistair Climpson added 24 but Firle were reduced to 104 all out with Warren Freer claiming an excellent 6-20 off seven overs.

On a day when the weather proved to be the winner the three other games in division one were all washed out.

It proved to be a very good day for both Mayfield teams.

In Division two, knocks from John Cook (62) and Lee Barnes (61), plus Tim Hancock's haul of 4-17, helped Mayfield 1st XI to a 111-run victory at Malling.

Meanwhile, Robin Holliday (56 and 4-15) proved to be the hero of a four wicket win for Mayfield 2nd XI at home to Bells Yew Green II.

Division 2: Withyham walkover v Firle II; Malling 91 (Tim Hancock 4-17) lost to Mayfield 202-7 (John Cook 62, Lee Barnes 61); Laughton v Ridgewood rained off; Priory Ruins v Burwash Weald rained off; Mayfield II 121-6 (Robin Holliday 56) beat Bells Yew Green II (120-8 (Robin Holliday 4-16).
