A teenager was trapped in Worthing town centre phone box when vandals kicked the door while he was in it.
The force of the blow pushed the door inwards and it jammed so the boy, who was about 15 years old, was left stuck inside. The teenager dialled 999 and a Worthing fire crew used cutting equipment and a crowbar to free him.
Eyewitness Mark Smith, of Station Road, Worthing, said: "He seemed to be quite calm about it all but was probably embarrassed. He was just standing inside the phone box when a gang of teenagers came running past and kicked the door."
