An 84-year-old woman had £300 stolen when conmen called at her door.
The incident happened at her house in Cowdray Road, Easebourne, near Midhurst, last night when a man knocked on the door, asking if she wanted any decorating work done.
The woman refused but when she later went upstairs she discovered her bedroom window was open and the money had been taken from her handbag. The pensioner was left shaken and upset by her ordeal.
The only description she could give of the man at the door was that he was between 20 and 30 years old and short.
Police say at least two men were involved in the incident and are calling on anyone else in the area who may have been approached by the men or know who they are to contact them.
