Mother-of-four Claire Goldsmith will be getting a little peace from the children when she hits the saddle for charity.
Claire, 34, will leave behind Tom, seven, Alfie, five, Naomi, four, and Angus, two, when she cycles off-road in the French and Swiss Alps in June for the charity Scope.
Scope supporter Dame Vera Lynn, from Ditchling, called in to wish Claire, who lives in North End, Ditchling, luck. Claire is taking part in the Ultimate Alpine Bike Challenge and will raise at least £1,000.
Regular riding on the Downs with a club called the Dirt Devils is helping her keep in trim. During the stamina-sapping ride, Claire and fellow riders will cycle 60 miles in 72 hours, reaching heights of 2,000ft above sea level.
Claire said: "What is fairly unusual about this ride is that it is off-road, going up and down mountains. I am also going to Wales to prepare for it."
