Lewes maintained top spot in National League division one with a thumping 7-0 win away Hounslow.

Belgium under-21 international Ed Cabay grabbed a hat-trick as Lewes tore their hosts apart. But the situation at the top of the league remains unchanged with title rivals Loughborough and Doncaster enjoying equally impressive wins.

With four games left to play, it still looks like the title could be decided on March 19 when Lewes entertain Doncaster. Before then, they must play Chelmsford, Barford Tigers and Brooklands.

After Sunday's win, manager Peter Boyse said: "It was a clinically comprehensive victory. They were a very poor side and we should have scored a dozen."

Cabay opened the scoring with his eighth of the season after finishing off a smart move involving Alistair Boyse and Ben Hawes. The forward wasted another good chance before doubling the lead on 21 minutes with a reverse stick shot from a tight angle which the Hounslow keeper seemed to help across the line.

Three minutes into the second half Alistair Boyse finished off a good passing move to make it 3-0 and then elder brother Jeremy got in on the act by scoring from a short corner.

Alistair Boyse netted his second in the 54th minute from a short corner and the goal of the game followed three minutes later when Hawes picked up the ball on halfway and ran through the home side's defence before firing home. Victory was completed in the closing stages when Luke Hurle broke down the right before crossing for Cabay to complete his hat-trick.

Lewes are at home to Chelmsford this Sunday and they will welcome back midfielder Simon Owen who was away on international duty with Wales in Belgium last weekend.

East Grinstead manager Barrie Sullivan had no complaints after seeing his understrength side swept aside 8-0 away to Loughborough Students.

Sullivan said: "We were beaten by a far better team. They beat us 8-1 at home earlier in the season and now 8-0 away, so we have no complaints."

Grinstead return to action this Sunday when they entertain fellow strugglers Indian Gymkhana at Saint Hill. Sullivan is hoping some of his more influential players, such as Mahmood Bhatti and Richard Leman, might return.

GRINSTEAD: Spight, Lacey, Thomas, Baker, Holland, B. Payne, King, R. Payne, Mills, Male, Ogden. Subs: Harms, Coote. Man-of-the-match: Julian Mills.
