A woman was airlifted to hospital after being involved in a head-on crash.

She was driving a Ford Escort on the A27 at Beddingham, near Lewes, when it collided with a Volvo coming in the opposite direction.

The woman was trapped and had to be cut free by fire crews before being taken by police helicopter to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

A male passenger in the Volvo also had to be freed by fire crews in the accident which happened at about 10.30am yesterday. The road was blocked and traffic diversions were put in place.
