A terrified cashier was held up at knifepoint by a robber who demanded cash from the till.

The attacker held a large knife to the throat of the female shop assistant after grabbing hold of her in Cullens, Church Road, Hove, yesterday morning.

He demanded money and when the till was opened grabbed the contents. He then fled from the store and headed towards Sackville Road.

The robber, aged between 30 and 35 and 5ft 10ins tall, was wearing a dark blue woollen hat and a heavy denim shirt or jacket. He was of medium build with an unshaven appearance.

Staff at Cullens declined to comment on the attack and the shop assistant, who was shaken but unhurt during the ordeal, was sent home to recover.
