BRIGHTON'S Clare Connor has taken over as captain of the England women's cricket team.
The 23-year-old, who started the current tour of Australia and New Zealand as vice-captain, has assumed control following the resignation of skipper Karen Smithies yesterday.
Smithies quit following the side's 220-run one-day defeat to Australia, the home side having totalled 299-2, then bowling out England for a record low of 79.
Connor may even get her chance to lead England in the World Cup which is in New Zealand later this year.
