CRAWLEY Council is warning it will get tough on people who abandon vehicles in the town when a four week amnesty ends on December 17.
The council is giving residents the chance to get rid of unwanted vehicles free of charge.
But it has warned it will prosecute anyone dumping cars after the four week period.
Police said a joint swoop with the council which took place before the amnesty started this week resulted in 19 cars being towed away and 35 owners being reported to the vehicle licensing department.
Old vehicles should take it to Bridger's car yard at Pease Pottage for disposal if roadworthy and taxed.
If the car cannot be
driven, its documents and keys should be taken to the licensing office at the Town Hall.
