Ian Payne's contro-versial penalty gave patchy Crawley a 2-1 victory over battling Wick at Broadfield Stadium in the Sussex Senior Cup,

The Reds will face the winners of tonight's Burgess Hill v Albion Reserves clash.

But they were taken all the way by Sussex League Wick, for whom Simon Jones saw an early rasping volley blocked by keeper Jason Curtis.

Less than a minute later, ex-Red Gavin Geddes shot just over the bar, but Wick were rewarded on 26 minutes, when Jones' far post free kick was headed back by Richard Knight and George Smith had an easy tap-in.

Crawley levelled eight minutes later when Jay Lovett's centre was nodded down by Simon Ullathorne and Dean Green blasted home.

Referee Tim Lawrence baffled everyone by awarding the Reds a penalty during first-half stoppage time after an apparent tug on Green.

Full-back Payne took responsibility and scored.

Wick faded in the second half but Crawley could not finish the tie off despite the threat of Green who stung Simon Davey's hands with another powerful drive.

Horsham YMCA saw off Chichester City 2-0 at Gorings Mead and are now looking forward to hosting neighbours Horsham in the third round.

Andy Price's clinical finishing was the difference between the two sides in an even contest.

He broke the deadlock after 16 minutes, beating Adie Girdler from a tight angle after a neat exchange with James Bird.

Price netted his second three minutes into the second half after Lee Butcher had carved the visitors' defence wide open.

Chichester, who were without top scorer Anton Romasz, enjoyed plenty of possession and created a number of first-half chances.

Mark Tryon saw an early header cleared off the line by Bird while Matt Osborne and Tony Stephens forced Jason Dumbrill into saves.

Hastings moved through to the third round with a 5-1 win at East Preston.

Terry White opened the scoring for Hastings on 21 minutes and Duncan McArthur added a second two minutes later.

Ritchie Phillips pulled a goal back for the home side before the interval, but Hastings upped the pace in the second half when Danny Simmonds scored twice in two minutes.

Stuart Myall completed the scoring on 58 minutes.

Lewes ended a seven-match losing streak with a 3-1 defeat of Horsham in the Floodlight Cup.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when a pass from Pattenden released Taylor into space and he slotted home from just inside the box.

Horsham equalised on 48 minutes when Vincent blasted past Rogers, but Lewes regained the lead after 67 minutes when a free kick from Stokes was nodded back by Hack and finished off by the head of Pattenden.

A minute later, Lewes's third came from the penalty spot when Taylor blasted home after Owen Hill was tripped.
