HORSHAM lost top spot in the Kent and Sussex Regional hockey League after being held to a 1-1 draw by local rivals Crawley.

Ian Brown gave Horsham a first-half lead from a short corner, but Crawley secured a share of the points when Terry Higgs scored his 14th of the season with a shot from the top of the D ten minutes from time.

Mid Sussex's improved form continued as they fought back from 2-0 down after 15 minutes to beat BBHC 5-2.

Andy Green scored a hat-trick and Phil Middleton netted twice, while Simon Hobden was man-of-the-match for a storming display.

Worthing moved off the bottom after an impressive performance earned them a 2-2 draw at home to Tulse Hill.

John Massie and Simon Holloway got the goals as Worthing twice came from behind, and they could even have taken maximum points after a strong finish to the game.

Middleton and Bognor's match away to Ashford was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

BRIGHTON lost 4-2 away to leaders Old Williamsonians in Division One.

But Brighton skipper Carlo Missirian was cursing his bad luck after two hotly disputed goals and the controversial sending off of Luke Shirley which proved decisive.

After falling 2-0 down in the first half, Brighton drew level through Richard Love and Matt van Bonc, but the hosts netted twice more with Shirley off the pitch.

Eastbourne slipped to third after losing 2-1 at home to Cliftonville. The winner came in the closing minutes after Matthew Veitch had cancelled out Cliftonville's early lead.

Newhaven failed to make the most of early chances as they let slip an early lead to lose 2-1 away to Burnt Ash.

Simon Bulteel put Newhaven ahead from a short corner but further chances were wasted and skipper Glyn Crees said: "On our performances so far we need not fear anyone in this league. However, a few players were missing on Saturday even though they were on the pitch!"

South Saxons were always behind as they lost 4-2 to Old Bordenians. Consolation goals came from Richard Keeling and Nick Phillips.
