LANGNEY Sports stepped up the pressure on Three Bridges boss John Crumplin with a thumping 5-2 win at Jubilee Field.

Bridges remain second from bottom in division one of the County League and have a crunch game tomorrow away to rock- bottom Shoreham, who closed the gap with a 3-2 win over Selsey.

Langney Sports led 1-0 at half-time through a 19th- minute strike by Andy Agutter and then took control in the second half with further goals from Craig Willard, Agutter again, Matt Allen and Andrew Ducille.

Already trailing 5-0, leading scorer Paul Green grabbed a late brace for Bridges and Crumplin had no complaints about the result.

"They were easily the best side we have played so far," said Crumplin. "I can't see anyone pipping them for the title.

"But I have taken some plusses from the game. Now we've got Shoreham and that is a big one for us."

Saltdean kept up the pressure by winning 3-1 at Sidley, who had taken a first- half lead through Scott McDonald.

Manager Glenn Burvill said: "We played well in the first half, but paid for not taking our chances. However, although they defended very well, we got on top in the second half."

Shaun Grice levelled 14 minutes after the restart before goals from Damion Dobbyn and Sean Randell in the closing 15 minutes sealed it.

Burgess Hill are also moving along nicely. Two goals in the first 14 minutes from Daren Newman set them on their way to a 3-1 victory at Eastbourne United.

All credit to the hosts, though, who pulled one back through Keiron White and had the Hillians on the backfoot in the second half before a late goal by Cameron Johnson sealed the points.

Manager Gary Croydon said: "Eastbourne United are much better than their league position suggests and they made it very hard for us."

East Preston slipped to a

2-1 defeat away to Redhill where recent signing Robbie Collins netted twice.

Although Clinton More pulled one back late on, Redhill were good value for their win.

Whitehawk's Jamie Quinlan had to be taken to hospital after receiving a serious knee injury in the 2-1 home win over Chichester.

Manager Paul Hubbard said: "It looked very nasty indeed. There's a hole in his knee the size of a penny piece. Hopefully it's not as serious as it looks."

Hubbard's men withstood all the Chichester pressure to earn maximum points, including 19-year-old debutant goalkeeper Matt Ades who saved Marc Tryon's spot-kick in first half injury time.

Seventeen-year-old midfielder Tom Graves enjoyed a fine match, scoring both Whitehawk's goals in the opening 45 minutes.

Hassocks manager Dave John thanked his lucky stars after managing to hold onto a 1-0 win against Horsham YMCA.

Robbie Kitchen's 26th- minute strike was enough to win it, but John Suter's YM side dominated for long periods.

He said: "They had more chances than us, but we put up a dogged show and probably just deserved to sneak it."

Eastbourne boss Pete Cherry admitted his side's 6-1 triumph over Littlehampton was flattering.

"They played well," said Cherry. "They were always in the game until we went 4-0 up then we took control."

Gary Brockwell broke Littlehampton's will to resist with a hat-trick, while the other marksmen were Stefan Fuller, Lee Walsh and Nick Barden.

At the bottom, Shoreham beat Selsey 3-2 but they made hard work of it after leading 3-0 at half time.

Goals from Tim Marshall, David Ayre and Richard Hudson put George Parris' side in the driving seat, but Selsey fought back after the break with strikes from Peter Eyre and Alun Morey.

Parris said: "It was a very good win and I think we deserved it. They are down the bottom as well, so it was a six-pointer for us."

Wick moved away from the dangerzone after a 2-1 win at home to Pagham.

Matt Smart gave the hosts a first-minute lead, but Pagham levelled with a 40-yard free-kick from Paul Martin which deceived John Keeley.

Wick continued to create numerous chances but had to wait until the 79th minute before grabbing a winner through Gavin Geddes.

Manager Gerry Green said: "We created numerous chances and could have scored ten, but their goalkeeper (Wes Hallett) had a fantastic game.

In the John O'Hara League Cup, Ringmer went through 3-2 at second division Southwick. They led 3-0 half-time through Wes Tate (2) and Daniel Merry, but Southwick fought back with strikes from Scott Carden and a Richard Carter penalty.

In the Sussex Senior Cup, Steve Warwick scored an extra time hat-trick as Sidlesham beat Shinewater 4-0. Kevin Clements got the other.

Storrington also needed extra-time before completing a shock 2-1 win over first division Portfield. Paul McMichael grabbed the winner after Steve Poulton had cancelled out Matt Rollings' early strike.
