CASHPOINT: Woodingdean is to get a bank cash point (ATM) at last. It has been a desert for some time as far as banking facilities are concerned. Following a major petition, I met the general manger of the Co-operative Bank from Manchester when he was in Brighton earlier this year and made him aware that Woodingdean, with a population in excess of 10,000, had no bank provision this side of Rottingdean, central Brighton or the University of Sussex or Lewes.

Our representations have been successful. A cashpoint is to be installed in Warren Road next month.

PLAY: Armchair Theatre Group's presentation of Suspects at the end of last week at Woodingdean Primary School was enjoyed by all and was their submission to adjudicator Nick Young for the Brighton and Hove Arts Council awards evening in December.

CONGRATULATIONS: Wood-ingdean resident Roger Musselle won a prize in this year's Brighton and Hove in Bloom competition for his wild life garden.

STATION REFURBISHMENT: Representatives from Railtrack held a public meeting at the Jarvis Preston Park Hotel last Monday evening to explain in detail the work that is planned for Preston Park Station.

The work will take about two months to complete and, for reasons of public safety, some of the work will be carried out during the night. It includes platform repairs and resurfacing, painting of the canopy and replacement concrete panel fencing.

There is a Railtrack Hotline manned 24 hours a day during the works to deal with any urgent issues - 0345 114141.

WIlDLIFE TRUST: The Brighton Group of the Sussex Wildlife Trust is holding an Autumn Market at Knoyle Hall on Saturday from 10am-12.30pm. Stalls will include bric-a-brac, plants, audio visual, home made and refreshments.

BADGERS AND COFFEE: Still on the Wildlife theme, the Mid-Sussex Badger Protection Group will be in the Knoyle Hall at 11am on Sunday morning to serve you tea or coffee and answer any questions about badgers.

COFFEE BREAK: The organisers of the Coffee Morning at the Jarvis Preston Park Hotel in aid of Macmillan Nurses raised £176 from the event, including the raffle.

PARK CARS: Following the successful petition by a Preston Park users action group this summer and the involvement in a petition by Green Party councillor Rik Child, barriers from the centre of the park have been moved to the top of the park in an attempt to keep the centre of the park car free. Safety aspects were behind the original protests.
