A HIT-and-run driver was being hunted today after a smash on one of Brighton's steepest hills.
The BMW he was driving sped down the road, ploughed into the back of a car and sent it careering into a vehicle coming up the hill.
The BMW sped away and was abandoned further down the road before the driver fled.
He left behind a trail of destruction and four people injured, one of them a young child.
Fire crews who had to cut free some of the injured said it was incredible nobody was killed.
The road was closed for over an hour as paramedics treated the trapped victims before they were released. The accident happened shortly after 7.30pm outside the Woodvale and Downs cemeteries.
Fire crews from Brighton's Preston Circus and Lewes dealt with the casualties and wreckage. Two of the injured, a middle-aged woman and teenage man, had to be carried to an ambulance on back boards.
All four casualties were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital. None of the injuries is thought to be life-threatening.
Anyone with information should call Brighton police on 01273 606744.
