NEW Albion boss Jeff Wood is poised to make his first signing.

Bradford City forward Lawrence Davies is joining the Seagulls today for the rest of the season on a free transfer, subject to a medical.

The 21-year-old former Welsh youth international will go straight into the squad for Saturday's home game against Exeter.

Davies impressed Wood in a two-match trial in the reserves. He played in the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham at Worthing last week and Monday's goalless draw against a strong Arsenal side at Boreham Wood.

"He came down to us with a glowing reference from the Bradford manager Paul Jewell," Wood said. "They just don't think he is ready at this moment in time for a team challenging for the Premiership.

"He's got good pace, he holds the ball up very well and against an experienced Arsenal back four he continually got in behind them and threatened them.

"We need another option up front, because we don't have any cover for Gary Hart and Richard Barker."

Davies has been restricted to four first team appearances since moving to Bradford from Leeds United 18 months ago.

Albion are signing him through to the end of June and he has reached a financial agreement with Bradford for the remaining year of his contract.

"We've done it this way because I want to see a bit more of him and I want him to fight for something," Wood added. "I don't want him to come here and just think it's a nice little comfort zone."
